Big Smoke anounce new single and national tour with Kitty Daisy & Lewis

Melbourne’s Big Smoke create a sound that dances its way through the history of rock ‘n’ roll. With pop, country and soul sensibilities supporting personal, hard-fought-and-won lyrics, the band journeys towards its true north, the classic song.

Performing with great passion and command, the band is fast becoming known as a group of serious players with serious songs, drawing comparisons to The Band and Big Star or the modern class of Alabama Shakes and The War On Drugs.

The past year has seen Big Smoke go from strength to strength. The band has featured as one to watch on The Age Online’s ‘Stage’ series, toured regularly along the East Coast and released the single ‘Try A Little Love’ following a signing to First Love/Shock Records. The single was well received, airing on Triple J, Double J and Rage and was embraced by community radio nationwide, coming in at #7 on the national AMRAP charts. All this culminated in a sold out launch at Melbourne’s iconic Old Bar, and an international support for the Kitty, Daisy & Lewis Australian tour”

‘Lately’ is the second single and title track from Big Smoke’s forthcoming EP. This pulsating rocker sees Slattery‘s vocals croon over ominous percussion, classic reverberating guitars and driving bass — all seamlessly crafted and delivered with the electricity of a live band playing in a room. It’s a rollicking jam, lovelorn yet anthemic, one to be sung along to from festivals to living room kick-ons.

“Totally enchanting” – Dom Alessio (Triple J)

“Pop and folk are often used to convey positive sentiment, but Big Smoke do it with such earnestness that you can’t help but buy into it completely.” – James Frostick (Who The Hell)

‘Lately‘ is out June 28 via First Love/Shock Records.

BIG SMOKE NEW SINGLE ‘TRY A LITTLE LOVE’

We are excited to announce that Melbourne band Big Smoke have joined First Love.

Melbourne’s Big Smoke create a sound that dances its way through the history of rock ‘n’ roll; pop, folk, country and soul sensibilities collapse together with personal, hard-wrought lyrics to strive for the desired result – a classic song.

Formed by singer-songwriter Adrian Slattery in ‘09, Big Smoke got its start as a regular fixture at the Birmingham Hotel alongside Melbourne favourites such as The Smith Street Band, The Harpoons, and Jim Lawrie. After a number of line-up changes over the years, the band recently steadied itself as a light-travelling three-piece boasting one of the finest rhythm sections going around: drummer, Luke Brennan and bassist, Alex O’Gorman.

Drawing comparisons to The Band and Big Star and contemporaries such as Dawes and The War On Drugs, Big Smoke perform with a flair and passion that is captivating and contagious. Recently, the group has shared the stage with acts such as New Gods, Georgia Fair and Sagamore and was also featured as a band to watch on The Age Online’s ‘Stage’ series.

The band released its debut EP, ‘River Queen,’ in April 2014, followed by single, ‘Colours’ in June. Big Smoke is currently completing its second EP. Their first single off their new EP, ‘Try A Little Love’ is scheduled for release via First Love/Shock Feb 21.

“There’s no way around it; this is a beautiful song” – Dave Ruby Howe (Triple J)

“I’m sure all avid lovers of music have experienced those moments where they hear a song for the first time and it’s like a light-switch has been turned on…I got that feeling from Big Smoke’s ‘Colours’” – Matt Bond  (It’s My Kind of Scene)
“Totally enchanting” – Dom Alessio (Triple J)

YOUNG HYSTERIA NEW SINGLE ‘ONE YOUNG LOVER’ OUT Sept 5

YH_Hi-Res

The anthemic jams of Tears for Fears coupled with the sublime transience
of Eno period Bowie.

With their fleeting sounds, laconic vocals and instantly memorable melodies, YOUNG HYSTERIA conjures a world lost in translation, yet ultimately romantic and blissful. Following on from their debut single, ‘This Is Not A Love Song’, which had the blogging community throwing superla- tives when it was premiered earlier this year, ‘One Young Lover’ continues their soul-sonic journey, an aesthetic that mirrors 80’s inspired contemporaries such as Twin Shadow and Blood Orange. The new single is as much cinematic in scope as their debut, a love letter written from the lineages of indie, electronica and pop.

‘This band blew me away when I saw them in Melbourne!’ — Riki Maymi, The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
‘Acid wash brilliance’ — Drunken Werewolf UK
