Big Smoke anounce new single and national tour with Kitty Daisy & Lewis

Melbourne’s Big Smoke create a sound that dances its way through the history of rock ‘n’ roll. With pop, country and soul sensibilities supporting personal, hard-fought-and-won lyrics, the band journeys towards its true north, the classic song.

Performing with great passion and command, the band is fast becoming known as a group of serious players with serious songs, drawing comparisons to The Band and Big Star or the modern class of Alabama Shakes and The War On Drugs.

The past year has seen Big Smoke go from strength to strength. The band has featured as one to watch on The Age Online’s ‘Stage’ series, toured regularly along the East Coast and released the single ‘Try A Little Love’ following a signing to First Love/Shock Records. The single was well received, airing on Triple J, Double J and Rage and was embraced by community radio nationwide, coming in at #7 on the national AMRAP charts. All this culminated in a sold out launch at Melbourne’s iconic Old Bar, and an international support for the Kitty, Daisy & Lewis Australian tour”

‘Lately’ is the second single and title track from Big Smoke’s forthcoming EP. This pulsating rocker sees Slattery‘s vocals croon over ominous percussion, classic reverberating guitars and driving bass — all seamlessly crafted and delivered with the electricity of a live band playing in a room. It’s a rollicking jam, lovelorn yet anthemic, one to be sung along to from festivals to living room kick-ons.

“Totally enchanting” – Dom Alessio (Triple J)

“Pop and folk are often used to convey positive sentiment, but Big Smoke do it with such earnestness that you can’t help but buy into it completely.” – James Frostick (Who The Hell)

‘Lately‘ is out June 28 via First Love/Shock Records.

JIMMY HAWK

jhawk_insta_promo

At once familiar and mysterious, Jimmy Hawk is the sound of road trips, sunsets and romance – requited and otherwise. With a penchant for luscious, transcendental melody and expressive lyricism; Hawk’s musical dreamscapes have endeared him to a steadily growing fan base.

Jimmy Hawk is one of Melbourne’s most prolific and well-regarded folk-psych treasures. From humble lo-fi, cassette four track beginnings, the past five years has seen Hawk release three albums, one solo and 2 with The Endless Party. Like a conceptual love letters to his heroes, The Beach Boys, Big Star, Neil Young; Hawk’s music flirts with a sense of alchemy and DIY aesthetic. His records display that rare ability to attack both the listener’s heart with its melodies and textures and head with its poetry and themes. In the greatest of songwriting traditions, Jimmy Hawk’s artistic mission has been to transcend fad and fashion and ensure the art of earnest expression.

As a seasoned performer, Jimmy Hawk has toured the US and UK and has performed alongside favourites such international acts such as Cold War Kids, The Temper Trap and The Shins.

“I keep hitting repeat on this new tune. It’s got something old school about it all – a little ’50s Elvis-like in the guitars; a little ’60s New Orleans in the rhythm. It’s cool stuff that generates a bit of heat each time I hear it.” **** Richard Kingsmill, TRIPLE J.

“Strangely compelling and unique” — 8/10 album review, Jaymz Clements, TRIPLE J MAGAZINE.

” Another great song from one of Melbourne’s best.” — Simone Ubaldi, BEAT MAGAZINE.

“Jimmy Hawk is a good chance to break out ”— Michael Cahill, THE HERALD SUN.
